Dr. Fairbairn has surgically treated over 220 cases of the extreme high lip line (Gummy smile) using this procedure and has written many articles for dental journals and a chapter in a book.
The procedure is very safe although some patients may experience more post operative swelling than others.
Relapse can be an issue in some cases dependant on muscles groups involved and post operative care taken by the patient. Generally patient satisfaction is high in this treatment option for a difficult cosmetic problem. Patients are requested to forward smile photos for initial assessment. Botox may be needed in extreme cases to stabilise the muscles prior to surgery in some cases.
